Year in Review (2022)
I had a great time returning to the MCU, orchestrating for composer Christophe Beck’s excellent score. Thanks as always to conductor/lead orchestrator Tim Davies, for leading the team.
Maya and the Three
When I heard that Tim Davies was hired to score the next Jorge Gutierrez project for Netflix, I knew it was going to be something special. Jorge ended up creating an epic Meso-American inspired story, rivaling the scale of Lord of the Rings. Tim’s score ended up an incredible collaboration, merging the sounds of the Meso-America with classical film scores, Mexican Ska, Georges Bizet, and heavy metal. To name a few!
2020 & 2021 Recap
Thankfully, it’s been a very busy couple of years for me. I haven’t had a chance to update in a little while, so I thought it would be a good idea to recap what I’ve been up to. Last year, the big news was receiving my first Grammy Nomination, and orchestrating The Queen’s Gambit and WandaVision. But, there was still much to do!
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
It was a lot of fun to reunite with the Sony team again on another big game, this time for PS5. The score is equal parts epic and quirky, written by the inimitable Mark Mothersbaugh and Wataru Hokoyama.
I had the opportunity to orchestrate the score, led by Tim Davies, and additional orchestrators Jordan Seigel and Lorenzo Carrano.
WandaVision
While 2020 proved challenging on many fronts, professionally it offered a lot of great opportunities. One such opportunity was having the chance to work with composer Christophe Beck once again on his amazing score for Marvel’s WandaVision. I last entered the MCU on his score for “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” so it was a lot of fun to once again tackle orchestrating his epic orchestral score.
Between “WandaVision” and Netflix’s, “The Queen’s Gambit,” I feel incredibly lucky to have contributed to the two biggest shows of 2020.
Finale Blog Q&A with Grammy Nominated Composer Jeremy Levy
I recently sat down for an interview with the fine folks from Finale Music Notation Software about my current Grammy® nomination, and my involvement orchestrating Carlos Rafael Rivera's score for Netflix's big hit, The Queen’s Gambit.
Best Jazz Recordings of 2020
I’m very excited to see “The Planets: Reimagined” has been included on Howard Reich’s “Best Jazz Recordings of 2020” list at the Chicago Tribune. Along with a 2021 Grammy® Nomination for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Capella, I couldn’t be more proud of this record.
The Queen’s Gambit
This summer I had the opportunity to reunite with Emmy-winning composer, Carlos Rafael Rivera, to orchestrate his stunning score for “The Queen’s Gambit.” Little did we know it would become the “it” show of the year!
Grammy Nomination
I have officially been nominated for a 2021 Grammy in the category “Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Capella” for my arrangement of “Uranus” from my new record “The Planets: Reimagined.”
To say it’s a little surreal is an understatement. I started this record over three years ago, with an idea to bring a fresh take on Gustav Holst’s spectacular suite “The Planets.” For a while, I wasn’t sure if it was a crazy idea, but I stuck to my vision. After releasing the record this Summer, I’ve been overjoyed to see it find an audience in this very strange year of 2020. Knowing that it has brought real joy to people in a turbulent year reminds me of the power of music and the need to create art.
